Moocall Calving Sensor

By Moocall Ltd

Last reviewed: December 2025

Tail-mounted motion sensor that provides SMS and app alerts 1-2 hours before calving by detecting tail movement patterns during contractions.

Moocall is an Irish-developed calving sensor that attaches to the cow's tail approximately 3-4 days before the expected due date. The sensor collects 600+ data points per second, analyzing tail movement patterns to detect the rhythmic contractions that precede calving.

When calving activity is detected, Moocall sends SMS alerts and app notifications directly to up to 2 phone numbers. Unlike other monitoring systems, Moocall communicates directly through cellular networks without requiring farm infrastructure like base stations or WiFi.

One Moocall sensor can monitor approximately 30 cows per season when rotated between animals based on due dates. The rechargeable battery lasts 4+ weeks per charge.
